“I like that it gets students out of the peg rut. They avoid, avoid, avoid and this helps open that door. It helps make things less mysterious. I also like that it just helps clarify the mechanics of what we're doing with the pegs.”

"I liked being able to show the concept of pegs, rather than just explain. They could go back and forth between practice peg and instrument with ease, implementing the concept directly after learning it.”

“The Practice Peg was great during group lessons. I would pass them around during tuning time and everyone got to work on peg tuning without needing a tremendous amount of supervision. It took the scary out of trying by yourself.”

"Most found it interesting and helpful, the parents really appreciated having a visual reference for how far around the peg they should expect to turn."

"The students really liked The Practice Peg because it took the anxiety out of starting peg tuning directly on the instrument. My students often feel scared to tune their instrument with pegs, even the fine tuners. Some worry about strings breaking or they don’t really know how to tune in terms of matching pitch."

"Definitely helped my students understand how little the pegs need to be moved and feel comfortable with the initial peg process. They liked the visual lines, think all around helped them conceptualize how to tune with pegs."

We're targeting initial shipping in the next 6-8 months. Reserve your spot above and you'll be among the first to know.
Our initial model will be sold for $50USD plus shipping costs- about the cost of a string replacement for a cello or viola. Classroom packs and bulk pricing for schools when available.
The Practice Peg is modeled after a standard violin or viola neck, scroll, and pegbox with a variety of standard, high-tension friction pegs. We're keeping the inner workings under wraps for now, but the experience is simple: it feels and behaves like the real thing, so your first time tuning isn't your first time practicing tuning.
The primary audience is beginning students and the teachers and parents who support them. Many of our trial participants — including advanced players — also found it useful for teaching, changing strings, and rebuilding confidence with peg work.
